in the 2 hole

This is part 2 of tunes to the batting order. Yesterday was lead off.

The unofficial baseball bible calls for a samurai swordsman to bat in the 2 spot, someone with dexterity and timing and guts, someone who can absorb the impact of a heater and deaden the ball without flinching, someone who can bunt.

I don’t expect the 2 man to lay a bunt down unless it’s a nuclear situation like Johnny LeMaster batting with the winning run on first base and Ted Williams on deck, but even then, they’ll just walk Williams. So hit away Johnny.

I want someone like Ty Cobb or Ron Hunt; someone who seldom strikes out and wears bones of bronze, letting pitches hit em’ in the knee cap or rib if that’s what must be done. The pain will go away.

I want Tom Waits Shore Leave, “trying to make it all last, squeezing all the life out of a lousy two day pass
……and talked baseball with a lieutenant over a Singapore sling…..”

  1. Great album, great song. I’m a huge Tom Waits fan. Batting 6th, I’d like a “Filipino Box Spring Hog.”

    • alright! we’ll have to go extra base hit crazy in an inning and bat around. that requires two songs for the 6th spot. To the Filipino Box Spring Hog i go for the 1st time. Thanks Bill!

  2. I knew this was going to be one hell of a playlist!
