brewers baseball and things

maybe, maybe not

Maybe Jay Bruce hitting a go ahead 2-run home run off Will Smith in the bottom of the 8th inning made sense to Cincinnati in some “serves you right” sort of way…..

because in the 2nd inning, Ramon Santiago’s home run was denied after a fan interfered with Logan Shaefer’s attempt to catch the ball. And so the war cries went up…”poetic justice, karma, only fair.”

The Brewers didn’t tie the score until the 8th inning. The game could have gone any which way, but I guess there’s a logic in every rear view mirror if you take the time to connect the imaginary dots of your own design.

The yakker of Will Smith hasn’t been yakking lately. The left hander previously made Jay Bruce look like a fool; swinging desperation on three straight sliders. Times change or hitters study video or Smith is tired or the season is long.

Will Smith was just a name back on December 5th, to most Brewer fans anyway, but not to  Brewers GM Doug Melvin. He was willing to part with his lead off hitter the previous two years for an untested left hander-Smith who maybe starts or maybe relieves.

Smith definitely relieves and revamp the Brewers bullpen; for the first 70 games of 2014 anyway. The Brewers have lost 5 of 6 and the All Star Break will happen in a few days. Perfect timing; maybe to rest the bullpen or maybe to prepare a gift basket for the new Brewers arriving via trade who maybe will be a reliever or maybe not. Maybe Smith just graduated from the low point academy. Final score; Reds 4, Brewers 2.

The Brewers are 52-37
