Yes, the Brewers have continued their spring cleaning that began last mid summer, of Carlos Gomez and Mike Fiers and then Aramis Ramirez and more recently Francisco Rodriguez and Adam Lind. But the Brewers are still with Ryan Braun, Jonathan Lucroy, Khris Davis, Scooter Gennett, Jean Segura, and starting pitchers Wily Peralta, Jimmy Nelson, Taylor Jungman. Cripes, they even kept hold overs Kyle Lohse and Matt Garza.
Craig Counsell is thankfully, still the manager, but the GM reins changed hands, from Doug Melvin to Ryan Braun lookalike David Stearns. Still, this is no way an erase the roster strategy, not yet, and hopefully not ever.
OK, so it worked for the Royals or not really. They kept Alex Gordon and Billy Butler through those rough seasons and the Mets kept David Wright, Lucas Duda, Daniel Murphy and all that pitcher gold so maybe the Astros and the Cubs now that Starlin Castro was traded, were the only teams that really pressed delete and started completely over.
The Brewers should keep Braun and Lucroy and those three young right-handed starters – Peralta, Nelson, and Jungmann together with all the new players acquired in trades on top 100 prospect lists whose names I haven’t yet learned and well, I’m hopeful heading into 2016.
